The new summer 2014 installment of Jorun Bombay‘s Funkbox Reload has arrived and geez, it’s pretty much off the meatracks. So much ill stuff from start to finish but I’m still scraping the contents of my cranium off of the floor just from hearing the Joeski Love / Steady B remix mashup that sets the whole mix off. Yes, you read that correctly- my head exploded. So please listen to this with caution, but whatever you do- listen. Nobody who loves Hip Hop wants to miss this, mainly because nobody else that I know of is doing it like this anymore. Dope on a rope, certified… that pretty much sums it up. Oh yeah, that new Rampagers 45 gets debuted in the mix too, so don’t miss out.
First time back posting on the blog since late last year… that’s pretty much how it’s gonna be from here on out I guess. Sporadic real schitt sitings whenever I have a new project to push or whenever i have the time to sprinkle some other stuff of interest on you (probably won’t be a lot of that, though). If you’re still checking out the happenings over here it’s appreciated, most def.
You may notice that we’re no longer down with Blogger / Google… they put THAT REAL SCHITT through some reeeeeeal bullsh*t when all I was trying to do was renew my domain name. They tried to suck me into some crap where I was gonna have to pay additional fees to Google Apps for basically nothing and tried to make it damn near impossible for me NOT to pay them if I wanted to keep the site on Blogger. Some real shady tricknology, kids. Long story short I relocated the business over to WordPress– so far so good but I peeped some tricky unnecessary money grabbing tactics out of them, too (thanks to GoDaddy for smoothing the transition out for me- they wanted money as well but I guess you gotta pay somebody if you’re not the most computer literate dude on earth and can’t work this sh*t out on your own).
So here we are, back again and reloaded- note the new overly cluttered header i haphazardly threw together. That’s how I do this, son! A quick rundown on upcoming PMC business- the Phill Most Chill Remix E.P. on Nobody Buys Records produced by my dudes The Bankrupt Europeans should be dropping in a matter of days; the Rampagers 7″ on DWG produced by Jorun Bombay featuring Emskee, Oxygen and me should also be dropping very very soon; and the long awaited Fabreeze Brothers album by myself and Paul Nice is DONE and will be released on AE Productions, hopefully by the end of the summer (SO hyped over this album… if people like it half as much as I do it’ll be one of their favorite Hip Hop albums in a looooong time, possibly EVER- yeah, I said it). Plus I have a few features here and there… what can I say, been gettin’ busy in my old age.
Also, for those of y’all who could care less about the PMC rappin’ stuff and want to hear more Soulman mixes, I got a few of those on deck too. Would love to do more- I have TONS of great music I’d like to share- but I’m low on time and usually too damn worn out with everything else I’m doing to put together a mix that I’m 100% happy with. I have two right now that have been sitting for over a year that I just haven’t been able to finish up. But I’ll get on it, have no fear.
Anyway, spread the word that THAT REAL SCHITT is up and running again- it ain’t over yet.
I’m slightly frazzled right now, what with handling a bunch of social networking and other online biz connected with my latest new release (seems I have a gang of ’em right about now), the 10 track full length lp by UK modern day legend DJ Format and myself, Phill Most Chill, titled “The Foremost” (get it? I knew you would). It’s been a busy day, but I’m more than happy to do whatever has to be done because I am freaking ecstatic about this album! Matt (that’s DJ Format to you) has been a beat making monster for years, and I can honestly say that in my honest opinion he honestly outdid himself with the beats on this record. Honest.
Before I get superfluous with the superlatives, which I can do at times, let me just direct you to the brand spankin’ new promo video for the album, courtesy of the uber-talented creative folks at Paintshop Studio (and yeah, I’m really ecstatic about this video too!)-
Release date is October 28th, should be easy enough to find online but if you have any troubles catching a copy hit me up right here and I’ll help you out with that. And we are trying to promote the heck out of this jawn, so if any of y’all bloggers or websiters or radio show peoples is interested in conducting an interview you can contact me here or on my Facebook page and we’ll try to make that happen if at all possible. For those of you who heard the incredible Rock The Discotek and Rock The Discotek Vol. 2 mixes by the incomparable Jorun Bombay (and if you didn’t you really, really need to take care of that asap before people start thinking you’re dumb), you may have heard a couple of songs with me supplying the raps (me being Phill Most Chill, random rap icon and prime minister of THAT REAL SCHITT). A number of people dug those tunes and suggested that it would be cool if they could make it to a vinyl release sometime in the near future. Ladies and gentlemen… the future is now.
Available for preorders is the latest release on the AE Productions label (Mr. Fantastic‘s imprint. also the home of the Phill Most & Mr. Fanta “Superfunk” 12″) by the aforementioned duo of Jorun Bombay and Phill Most Chill, teaming as one to become Jorun-P.M.C. Titled “The Magic Disco Machine”, this nice piece of vinyl features those two songs I already spoke about, “Can’t Won’t Don’t Stop” and “The Champ”, as well as a new joint, “Magic Disco Machine”. And although we may be rockin’ a disco break or two, this record is pretty damn far from being disco. Make no mistake, this is hardcore b-boy music, the type of stuff that people just don’t make anymore. We might as well had stepped into a time machine, set it to like 1986-87, grabbed the illest Hip Hop we could find once we got there, then returned back to the present with The Magic Disco Machine E.P.
As a bonus, there’s also an exclusive 7″ with alternate versions of “The Champ” available for those that cop the full bundle (and there may also be some stickers for people who frequent the DWG forums, but I’m not so sure how all that works so head straight for the DWG forums and try to get some info if you want some dope azz stickers too). Full color sleeve as well (see the second pic up top).
And be prepared- if you dig this one Jorun and I are busy working on a Jorun-P.M.C. full length album for 2014, and I can pretty much guarantee that you’re gonna like that one, too. So stay tuned.

Haven’t done one of these in awhile (and looking at my blog stats it seems that the Headphone Music posts were some of the most viewed, I guess because the artists and / or songs featured in the content came up in more Google searches than your typical obscure THAT REAL SCHITT post). Anyway, let’s get to it as I let y’all know what I’ve been rockin’ on my iPhone and iPad recently (the stuff I don’t mind mentioning, anyway… yeah, I’m still on my Secret Squirrel / Morocco Mole for real)-
Soundsci – Soundsational lp – fantastic concept featuring only samples from obscure soul man Mike James Kirkland‘s “Don’t Sell Your Soul” anthology (music from back when he was doin’ it as the frontman for Mike And The Censations) and certified real-schitt bars courtesy of super rappers Soundsci. Really good rhyming and production on pretty much every single song- no fast forwarding necessary.
FIrst Words – All Day Breakfast lp – another great project from the producer who must never sleep Jorun Bombay. Feel-good rap schitt, like eating bacon for every meal. Another one where every song is nice but my joints would be “Bamtronix” and especially “Norma Loves Her Gin”.
Seeds Of Fulfillment – self titled lp – One of those little obscure albums in my collection that’s damn good but doesn’t get mentioned by many people. 70’s jazz with a smooth sound (as opposed to “smooth jazz” – there’s a difference), I just put it in digital form before I sold it and gave it a good listen probably for the first time in all the fifteen years or so that I had it. Might not be everybody’s thing, but this is the kind of stuff I play while I’m cleaning the house on a Saturday.

Kanye West – Yeezus lp – Yeah, I’m sayin’ it. I know a lot of people, be they mainstream or underground rap fans, are NOT feelin’ Ye’s latest experiment. For various reasons. I’m gonna tell you, I really believe history is gonna look at this album differently than people are seeing it / hearing it right now. Maybe I just like it when people make music that screams “I don’t give a F*** what y’all think about it!”, which Kanye clearly did NOT when he put out an album like “Yeezus”. And I respect when people have the courage to take music to new uncharted territories, and I ABSOLUTELY feel that Ye, with the very important help of the legendary Rick Rubin, did that here. Is the result something that you really want to listen to? I don’t know, maybe not. But I like where this record is coming from- time will only tell where it ends up going as far as history is concerned.
DJ Format & Phill Most Chill – The Foremost lp – oops, probably not supposed to mention this yet. Yikes! Oh well, y’all better get ready for it because it’s gonna be caving your whole world in very soon. VERY soon. Get ready. And in case you didn’t know already- DJ Format is a BEAST.
Kendrick Lamar’s verse that everybody was talking about on whatever that song was – Actually, no, this wasn’t in my headphones in mid- September or any other time. Just thought I’d mention it since everybody else had something to say about it- I didn’t want to be left out of the party. No dis to Kendrick, he’s a very talented dude (no old man hate here).
I swear I try not to hate on the popular music of today… really, I do. I want to like the sh*t. It’s not like my lifelong dream was to become the old dude with cobwebs hanging off his sack that doesn’t understand why indoor plumbing is a necessity (“those outhouses back in my day did the job just fine“). I do NOT want to be that dude! But try as you might, you become that dude anyway, at least to some extent. There’s really no escaping it.
And to be honest, being that old dude who tries too hard to accept the ways of the younger generation ain’t a great look, either… at some point it’s only logical that you have a certain amount of contempt for the new sh*t, just because it’s so unlike your old sh*t that you understand and feel warm and comfortable with.
Which brings me to this super nice “Nakamarra” track by the Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote featuring A Tribe Called Quest‘s legendary front man Q-Tip. This song has been out for months now but it still falls under the “new sh*t” category, yet somehow I understand it very well and it makes me feel incredibly warm and comfortable. So see, new music people? This is proof that I (and I think most of us old farts) am NOT out to just hate on all things newly recorded. Yeah, I guess it does have a somewhat retro sound (especially Tip’s verse- as my Facebook friend Ben James said it, “Those chord changes with Q-Tip on top sounds like classic Tribe!”), but I don’t know, all I care about is if I like something or not. And this is new. And I like it. Please, new people, keep making more stuff that I like. (And shout out to vocalist Nai Palm for the ill song stylings that have been making me feel something akin to sunshine ever since I heard this tune.)
A side anecdote concerning The Abstract Poetic- back when I was slingin’ records at the infamous Roosevelt Hotel and the Marc Ballroom record shows in New York City in the mid 90’s there was one time when Tip is over at my table looking through my crates, and we’re talking music and whatnot… now, I am admittedly socially awkward but I am not a stutterer and also not at all a starstruck-type person who’s gonna get flustered around celebrities or anything like that, but for some reason unbeknownst to me while saying something to Tip I got stuck on a word and couldn’t get it out for however many long seconds that felt like minutes, on some straight up Stuttering John from the Howard Stern Show sh*t! Tip is a cool brother and had no reaction, and I played it off well, but let’s just say it was embarrassing. Never happened to me before or since. Definitely NOT so warm and comfortable.
